The Echo of Contrapuntal Melodies

I've uploaded the first of three ECM TOADS on rapidshare. There are also shiny disks of all three TOADS in the post to Mark, Robin, Ian&Irene, Scott, Mark and Dave. I intend to upload the next two installments over the next week or so, and to include full details of the TOADS in the next mailing.

This first disk features almost 25 years of John Surman, particularly his solo or duet work, plus some similar tracks from Jan Garbarek and Eberhard Weber. My title is probably wildly inaccurate, as I doubt that there is any actual counterpoint going on, but it seemed appropriate in an impressionistic (i.e. wrong) sort of way.

Download it here (85MB).

  1. John Surman – Portrait of a Romantic (Private City, 1988)
  2. John Surman – Trethevy Quoit (Road to St Ives, 1990)
  3. John Surman, Jack DeJohnette – Fair Trade (Invisible Nature, 2002)
  4. Jan Garbarek – The Arrow (Visible World, 1996)
  5. John Surman – Druid’s Circle (A Biography of The Rev. Absalom Dawe, 1995)
  6. Eberhard Weber – Street Scenes (Pendulum, 1993)
  7. John Surman – Debased Line (Free and Equal, 2003)
  8. John Surman – For the Moment (Coruscating, 2000)
  9. John Surman – Edge of Illusion (Upon Reflection, 1979)
  10. John Surman – Fide et Amore (The Amazing Adventures of Simon Simon, 1981)

Wicked awesome, Dave - downloading this right now, although Rapidshare is not exactly living up to the "rapid" (or "rapeh") part of its name.
